After years with Alfândega do Porto as its stage, the 42nd Portugal Fashion changed the riverside building to the City Park. On this event we got a chance to see the Autumn/Winter fashion shows, whose opening took place, as usual, in Lisbon on March 17 and then in Porto from March 22 to 24.
Portugal Fashion’s organization considered that “in this edition, we follow the organizational logic of the great international fashion shows such as London, New York and Paris, which privilege the accomplishment of the parades in large removable structures installed in city centers”. The special construction in Queimódromo do Porto reinforced “the promotional capacity, the aesthetic language and the authoral world-view of creators and brands”.
On the video bellow you can get a sneak peek of the best proposals for next winter by some of the major Portuguese shoe brands: Ambitious, The Baron’s Cage, Fly London, J. Reinaldo, Nobrand and Rufel. Let yourself be inspired by these designers’ suggestions for the coldest season.
The second part of Women’s Shoe Trend is here. Prepare for take off to the rest of this journey and enjoy!
Today we introduce to you one of the themes for next winter season. Dark Wonder is an opulent trend with an escapist and non-conformist focus. It explores the intersection of reality and virtual reality, resulting in materials and embellishments that feel hyperreal, and designs that have a technological and fantastical quality, playing into the Winter and Holiday & Partywear retail drops.
Get to know Dark Wonder and all of it’s shoe trends right here.
A fantastical theme runs through the Dark Wonder trend, drawing on surreal fairytale narratives with a dark and distorted edge. This opulent direction takes the form of dark embellishments, symbolic motifs and exaggerated proportions, as seen in the return of the platform sandal and new flared heels.
An edgier interpretation of classic winter baroque themes emerges with opulent accessories and footwear collections. This decorative look is underpinned by night- to-day dressing and a fusion of antiquated luxury and new technologies, and is applied through reworked items, plush materials and embellishments.
An otherworldly mood for partywear designs is created through the fluid opulence of silk and beaded fringe, glitter mesh and chains. Shifting, layered embellishments and exaggerated hair trims create a new, evolved disco mood. A sense of movement is key for this direction, which taps into 1980s influences.
Fetish aesthetics uptrend for A/W 18/19, inspired by feminism and sexual liberation, and resulting in wearable products with subversive undertones. S & M details inspire new hardware alongside street-savvy synthetic and leather materials, which are styled in contemporary ways.
Here is the second part of the Dark Wonder Vision for A/W 18, check the trends to see what’s coming on the runways next Winter.
Lustrous liquid-look bronze tones have a molten quality eith sculpted forms. The look is minimalist and has subtle sheen. Ovoid shoulders create elegant curves on easy jackets, while slim, long-sleeved structured dresses feature glittering, eye catching finishes.
Encrusted surfaces feature layers of metallic sequins and miniature crystals on easy-wear items such as the shirt dress. Designs tread the line between man made and natural. The overall look is futuristic and statement-making, but also remains commercial.
Devore, jacquard and brocade fabrics are fused together in one garment to create an overt sense of opulence. The high-end, more-is-more aesthetic is supported by rich tones and metallic threads.

Nature appears strange in this direction, with organic forms that are intensified with color. Mutated embellished florals and cutwork lace. Toxic yellows and metallic aqua tones appear more luminous against deep purples. Cleverly cut lace layers and feminine ruffles working in harmony.
The Plush story focuses on luxury finishes. Rich silks have a soft touch, while opulent velvets offer a warmer texture. Deep colors sit alongside brighter counterparts. Sleek tailored suits and midi dresses offer streamlined silhouettes. Furniture-style fringing ramps to look up.
