Some spring 2019 handbag trends were carried over from previous years, like all of the oversized bags, straw bags, ball-shaped bags, and more. Others were different themes on old trends, like the trunks and duffels that we saw. Snap clasp bags
Think handbags the Queen would wear, aka the ladylike bag. They are basically an oversized old-fashion coin purse with a classy snap fastening at the top, and perhaps a nice tortoiseshell chain strap. Snap clasps will always have that old timey nostalgia. Look to Coach and Simone Rocha for inspiration.
The cult of travel has been all over the runways this season, with lanyards being one of the spring/ summer 2019 bag trends to represent it. Holding your handbag is so last year, this season it’s all about wearing it around your neck. these small bags are perfect for carrying your passport, airplane ticket, and a bit of a foreign currency on those budget flights that won’t allow you to bring on a handbag.
Barbie was right: life in plastic definitely is fantastic. A see-through plastic bag is also a great choice for the beach or pool, and boy, did we see a lot of different beach bag ideas show up in the summer 2019 bag trends. One word of advice for this trend: do curate your belongings so it still looks stylish, it’s just not the same vibe if you can see your tampons and your smints.
Crochet was a big hit this season, pairing well with an overall boho, summery vibe. Crocheted bags came primarily in the form of hobo, tote and more casual bags perfect for a day on the beach or some casual shopping.
Last season was all about the basket bag, but this year we are embracing another natural trend: the crochet bag. Think a softer, more wearable version of the trend, in neutral tones of beige, sand and brown. Perfect for tonal dressing, as seen at Jacquemus, Isabel Marant and Chanel.
The trend that is set to rule more than any other this spring is one of the prettiest and most romantic we can think of: bows. You’re never too old to put a bow on it. This charming embellishment adds a touch of sweetness to whatever it’s bestowed upon, and for 2019 let’s make it a shoe.
